Eliminating Polio from the world forever has been a major Rotary International goal since 1985. We are almost there. Only four countries are left that carry the threat of igniting a Polio epidemic. Every $1.00 donated to Rotary today to fight polio will be matched by $2.50 from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. They have challenged Rotary to raise $200 million to help finish the job started in 1985. Since 1985, Rotary volunteers have innoculated over 2 billion children. The incidence of Polio has gone from 350,000 new cases per year in 1985 to less than 1500 in 2009. We are almost there. Polio is an easily spread disease, especially among children. We must get it all to keep it from coming back. Join Rotary in this effort. As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, children everywhere remain at risk Our gift to humanityis a polio free world.
